It landed on my desk in all its regal glory. The print was intricate and quality impeccable. I was intrigued to know the story behind this particular bag. I knew the buying team were working on something very special but I didn’t know it would be something quite as unique or stylish. I wanted to be in the know, so I sat down with our head of buying Julie Walker.
Julie began by explaining how Damask evolved from Baroque, how the trend started, and what made it mainstream fashion for 2013. Admittedly I’m not the fashionista of the office, yet even I was taken aback by the classy design.
The trend of 2012 was clearly the Union Jack. With the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, Carrier Bag Shop spotted the trend early and it turned out to be a huge success for us. This year she’s chosen a fashion inspired approach, making sure we’re following the latest trends on the catwalk.
Getting ‘the right look’ involved plenty of trial and error she told me. Whether it was choosing which colours to stock or whether to add matching handles, attention to detail was always going to be key. After many revisions, much debate and alot of coffee, the design was finally ready for manufacture.
Once the samples had arrived, our Sales team were so impressed they asked for a bespoke Damask design for their print customers. Julie and her team whipped up an alternative design including an inverted print and left plenty of space for logos. For those who want to add their branding without losing the impact of the design, a second style of Damask bag was born.
Having uncovered the story behind these Damask bags, I think our customers will genuinely love them. Whether the bags are printed or kept plain, these are pretty awesome bags that are definitely worth a closer look.
If you’ve got any thoughts or feedback I would love to know. Email me at shamsul.duha@carrierbagshop.co.uk and I’ll get back to you pronto.
Recipe: A Comic Relief Bake Sale
Serves: 30 sweet toothed colleagues
Ingredients:
-20 Fairy Cakes
-20 Homemade Biscuits
-12 Pieces of Banana Bread
-12 Crème Egg Brownies
-20 Cake Pops
-30 Cupcakes in Chocolate, Red Velvet, Lemon and Coffee Flavours
-4 Avid Home Bakers
Method:
Step 1. Politely ask your colleagues who enjoy baking to make their finest sugary treats.
Step 2. Get each of them to cook up to two types of confectioneries, in order to ensure your bake sale lasts for three days.
Step 3. Strategically place the treats close to a vending machine or kitchen (in our case our very own tuck shop!).
Step 4. Send a company wide emailing announcing the arrival of said sugary treats in support of Comic Relief.
Step 5. Wait for the queue of hungry colleagues and donate the takings to charity.
Step 6. Allow colleagues to work off their guilty pleasure with a pre-prepared exercise bike.

Comic Relief has been a fantastic success for us this year. Whether it was the eight hours of cycling, the prize raffle or the charity car washes, we came together to raise as much money as possible. We’re proud to announce we were able to raise a total of £504.70.
A big thank you to everyone that ate as much cake as possible, cycled to their hearts content and helped us raise money in order to make a difference.
When we sent out an infographic on New Years Day, to celebrate some of our key achievements in 2012, we got pretty excited. We dug up plenty of office data, went through the creative process and thought of some of the wackiest things we did last year. We really didn’t expect a customer to take the time and effort to send us a little something special. We were totally blown away!
It all started one cold wintry morning. We had just agreed on the final subject line and we pushed the big send now button. Using an infographic as our end of year message was a first. We weren’t sure what our customer’s reactions would be. But we knew we really wanted to share all the great things we had achieved in 2012.

A few days had gone by and we continued to get a great response from our customers. Then we got a surprise delivery. We eagerly opened up the packaging to find a fantastic selection of fine teas. We received everything from Peppermint Leaf to Wild Berries. We just couldn’t wait to get them into our mugs. Like any good office we put the kettle on and enjoyed our first Chash Cuppa.
We thought it was an awesome gesture and it definitely brightened up a gloomy January. From everyone at the Carrier Bag Shop we want to say THANK YOU to Dan from Chash Tea!

Here at Carrier Bag Shop we would like to say a big hearty thank you to all our customers in 2012! We’ve had a fantastic year, and to celebrate we are sharing some of our favourite stats and facts about life at CBS over the last twelve months. Enjoy!

Why would we roll back the price of our Italian Twist Paper Carrier Bags? It’s actually a pretty simple reason. We always want to offer the highest quality products at a fair price to all of our customers. In keeping with this, we feel we can lower the price of our Twist Paper Carrier Bags without comprising on the quality.
We hear of many horror stories from customers who have searched for Twist Handle Bags and were shocked by the poor quality and service they received from other suppliers. Therefore we want more customers to enjoy our Italian Twist Paper Carrier Bags and the great service that comes with it, so we decided to permanently lower our prices.
Starting from only £7.55 we feel that we can appeal to many more customers and provide a superior service. You can take our word for it but you don’t have to, here are some stories from our Italian Twist customers:
We would love to hear your packaging stories, so get involved and let us know about your experiences in the comments below!
October 2012 is a very special month for us as we launch our Food Packaging range at Carrier Bag Shop! We have a fully stocked collection of core lines including Take Away Containers, Coffee Cups, Paper Food Bags and much more.
We took this decision as we wanted to offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution to our increasing customer base of patisseries, caterers, takeaways and businesses that sell scrumptious food goods. We’re also looking for feedback, so if there are lines you would like us to carry, simply email us on info@carrierbagshop.co.uk or tweet us at @CarrierBagShop. We intend to expand our lines in Catering Packaging, especially ahead of Christmas, and would love you to be part of the process.
Let us know what you think, and we look forward to expanding this range for you in the coming months.
